UPDATE ON CASE STUDY REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the previous updates on the requirements of the case study, I would like to announce that requirement for MYOB transactions are also not required for the purpose of next week's presentation. However, you need to include your answers in the final report.

ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING ADIZAN CASE STUDY

Assalamualaikum and dear students,


For the requirements of the case study, there are a few clarifications that I want to make.


1. REQUIREMENT A - MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING
  • You need to produce Production Budget in terms of units only.
2. REQUIREMENT B - FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING AND AIS
  • The Budgeted Income Statement and Budgeted Balance Sheet are to be prepared on ANNUAL BASIS instead of QUARTERLY BASIS. 
  • Only Cash Budget needs to be prepared on QUARTERLY BASIS.
3. REQUIREMENT C - FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • For the purpose of the 1st presentation, you are only required to prepare answers to QUESTION 1 ONLY.
  • Questions 2 - 4 are to be answered in the final report.
  • For you to comment the financial ratios in question 1, you need to use the following comparative figures.
       Industry's Average
  • Current ratio - 3.70 X
  • Quick ratio - 2.10 X
  • Inventory turnover ratio - 14.30 X
  • Average collection period - 89 days
  • Fixed asset turnover - 2.50 X
  • Total asset turnover - 1.75 X
  • Debt ratio - 27.3%
  • Times interest earned - 4.50 X
  • Gross profit margin - 28.92%
  • Net profit margin - 6.7%
  • Return on equity - 7.4%
  • Return on asset - 6.5%
  • EPS - 15 sen

Course Synopsis
           
This course is designed to expose students in the final year of the program on the application and the interaction of the various accounting disciplines which include Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Finance, Accounting Information Systems, Taxation, and Audit in the activities of different types of business organization. The emphasis is more on how the different accounting activities are related to each other. It also focuses on how the integration of the different accounting activities contributes in the support of the day-to-day operations, in the decision-making process and in the reporting of financial results to the stakeholders.

Course Objectives

1.      To relate how the Accounting Information Systems (AIS) fit into the business environment.
2.      To recognize and apply the various accounting functions in a business entity.
3.      To be able to take a holistic view of how different functions and disciplines interact and affect the Accounting Information Systems.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1.      differentiate the different forms of business;
2.      explain how the Accounting Information Systems (AIS) fit into the management information system (MIS);
3.      understand and differentiate between Financial Accounting and Management Accounting models/functions;
4.      apply the degree of overlaps between the accounting information systems and their various sub-systems;
5.      get an overview of the nature of the accounting transaction processing cycles;
6.      understand how the recording of the transactions and financial reporting cycle work;
7.      prepare the different types of reports as a means of communicating to management;
8.      comprehend and apply the nature, purposes and how transactions/activities from the taxation discipline impact the Accounting Information Systems;
9.      comprehend and apply the nature, purposes and how transactions/activities from the finance discipline impact the Accounting Information Systems;
10.  comprehend and apply the nature, purposes and how transactions/activities from the auditing discipline impact the Accounting Information Systems;
